Here’s a great reminder from Keith Harrison that even though it’s possible to mock up a quick label next to an input control in SwiftUI, there are plenty of reasons not to. 🚀
Apple announces biggest upgrade to App Store pricing
I don’t think we’ll ever see freeform pricing on the App Store, given how complex that would be with hundreds of currencies around the world, but this is the next best thing, covering everything from $0.29 to $10,000.
I agree with Brent Simmons here that this is not purely about the screen size, and certainly productivity is a big justification for higher prices. However, I also think that the Mac carries with it quite a bit of legacy in terms of pricing. People pay more for Mac software because "desktop software costs money" is still very much a thing. Will that survive to the next generation though? Or for that matter, will Mac OS survive to the next generation! 😁
A Flaw in Apple's In-App Purchase System Enables 30K Illegal Sales
I am guessing you all saw this story but just in case you have been living under a rock for the last week here it is (it also lets me introduce the next link with a bit of context). This was covered by everyone but I think The Next Web had a pretty good write up of the In-App Purchase exploit from last week.
Porting iOS Apps to the Mac with "Marzipan"
More links in the macOS category? 🤯 There might be even more next year when Marzipan gets an official release. Until then, here's Peter Steinberger with a practical look at getting an app up and running using unofficial techniques.
It's worth mentioning that Marzipan is not officially available to developers in Mojave, and that today's version will very likely have fundamental changes by the time Apple really let us see it next year. That doesn't mean this article isn't worth reading though! 🤓
I really liked this article from Graham Lee. When I worked as a product manager, I always took the approach that the next sprint should be fully planned, the next couple should be loosely planned but that after that the backlog is very fluid. However, the important point is that even though the backlog may be vague, the overall product direction should always be clear.
Apple Entrepreneur Camp applications open
I link to these camp announcements every time Apple publishes them, but it feels like something is always missing. I’d love to see a recap of the previous camps when they open enrolment for the next one. I appreciate that not all apps from completed camps will be launched when the next camp starts, but I’m sure there are still plenty of great founders, apps, and stories from the alums that Apple could highlight.
