Apple and IBM sitting in a tree! That's a surprise. What next? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria? In all seriousness though this is a bold move from Apple, and one that could have long lasting, positive ramifications for the iOS platform. I liked this serious post by John Moltz and this fine piece of sarcasm by Russell Ivanovic about the announcement.
200! OK. Almost 4 years, and yes we had cake! π
Thanks for subscribing, spreading the word and most of all for writing all the amazing content I get to read and share every week. Here's to the next 210 issues (I get to retire at Issue 410, right?).
TaskRabbit Mobile Engineer, San Francisco
TaskRabbit is revolutionizing how work gets done - for our Taskers, our Clients and importantly, our employees. Since 2008 we've been building a peer-to-peer marketplace that safely and reliably connects neighbors to get things done. Come join our iOS team and help us build the next generation of our award-winning app!
Ole Begemann pulls off the double whammy again this week by not only blogging about the internals of Swift instance methods but also looking into the new EU VAT rules which come into effect next year. Even if you're not based in the EU, this will affect you as you sell apps here through the App Store so you should be aware of this.
Apple Pay launched at the start of this week and as far as I can see it all went extremely smoothly. Next steps? Well as very few iOS developers also run bricks and mortar stores, let's integrate it into our apps π.
User Interface Customization in iOS 5
Now that the NDA is lifted I am sure we will see plenty of blogs covering the new iOS 5 APIs over the next few weeks however Steve Baranski was quick off the blocks last night with this in depth look at the new UIKit visual customisation APIs.
Accessing the UDID is now a cause for rejection
Kevin Dent tweets that Apple are now rejecting apps for accessing the device UDID. I may be able to give more information about this next week as I have an update in review at the moment which would potentially be hit by this but it seems like the rejections for doing this may have started.
